From sustainable farming initiatives to solar panels and clean energy, we’re all making an effort to be greener. If you’re a food-driven business, one of the easiest ways you can do that is by making the switch to compostable food packaging.
“Compostable? Don’t you mean biodegradable?”
Yes and no — all compostable packaging is biodegradable, but not all biodegradable packing is compostable. Biodegradable materials will naturally breakdown significantly faster than their plastic counterparts, bit won’t really add anything to the environment. However, compostable packaging actually fertilises and enriches its soil, contributing to nature’s efforts.
When you pass these attributes onto your customers with food packaging, they can add the packaging to their home composts to boost their own gardens. That’s pretty cool. We’re finding that many of our clients are opting for compostable packaging for this very reason (their customers love it!).
Whether you go custom or ready-made, your choice will depend on product, postage and/or delivery circumstances (e.g., distance or cooling) as well as any specific packaging regulations for your industry.
Compostable food packaging at Profile Packaging.
At Profile Packaging, we don’t just meet our environmental responsibilities; we embrace them. One of the ways we’ve done that is through the development of a compostable range of food containers. A range we’ve called Profile Earth.
This innovative line is produced using bagasse (sugar cane fibrous matter). It can even be designed for top sealing applications (we can also help you with compostable and recyclable films here). Our compostable packaging will break down over about 60 – 90 days in a home compost bin, and even faster in an industrial compost facility. This is a huge bonus, as most compostable packaging products are exclusively commercially compostable (meaning they won’t break down if not in an official composting facility)
Profile Earth is also:
- Made from 100% renewable materials.
- A responsible alternative for foam tray applications in fruit/veg, bakery etc.
- Microwave and fridge safe.
- Able to withstand heating temperature to 90°C.
